The Maui Arts and Cultural Center has come under fire for allowing a performance in June that prompted complaints about sexual dancing and nudity.

Hawaii News Now reports the theater is accused of violating its liquor license by allowing the male performers in “Thunder from Down Under” to expose too much skin.

Two complaints have been filed against the theatre regarding the June 8 performance, and the theatre has decided not to challenge the allegations.

A description of the traveling performance on the show’s website says it features “chiseled bodies, seductive dance routines, cheeky humor and boy-next-door charm.”

Maui’s Liquor Control Board wouldn’t reveal what evidence they had for a hearing this week on the matter, but a county spokesman says the theatre will likely have to pay fine.

The theatre declined to comment.

Somebody needs to get a life. As long as only consenting adults were involved, what’s the harm?

    • allie says:

As a young female, I have to say I don’t see the charm in these men. Women don’t relate to a body. WE relate to a total human being. Holistically. These men are as sexy as turnips.

      • rhone says:

define “young”. weren’t you a graduate student for like 20 years?

      • dragoninwater says:

hahahahhaa, you’re obviously not a female or a normal one. Women drool over a 6’4″+ tall guy with a six-pack abs like guys drool over models. I know so from personal experience in life.

        • Cricket_Amos says:

As the drooler or the droolee?

        • PoiDoggy says:

@dragonwater, people have diff tastes. No, not all women like tall men w/six pack abs (I have a friend who describes them as “creepy”). My father thought men who drooled over models were “dumb,” because “models are manufactured, they’re not real women.” Of course some people do like those body types. I would say Allie is wrong too though. Some women relate to the “total human being,” but I’ve known some just out for a good time who are only interested in the body and its possibilities. The complaints about the theater seem silly though, it’s obvious what the show is, if you don’t want to see it, don’t go. As someone said on SA’s FB page re this story, you also see more skin than you want to at the beach.

      • justmyview371 says:

Sure Allie! If your disgusted, don’t go. I bet there were a lot of females there.

Looks like the evangelicals are taking over Hawaii.

  3. Boots says:

Please, we don’t need protection from sexual dancing and nudity. If people don’t like such entertainment, they should never have bought a ticket. I am sure this was not advertised as a Roman Catholic production. 🙂

    • Mr Mililani says:

The people complaining about this show probably want all adults in bed by nine. In the case of the Roman Catholic priests, they probably want innocent little boys in bed by seven.

  4. TheFarm says:

The Maui Liquor Control Board is way out of control. Same people who tried to fine Maui bars for allowing people to bob their heads to music. Inspired a whole “Dar to Dance” movement on Maui. Crazy, puritanical? Or on the take?

  5. btaim says:

Same dancing by women have been going on for a LONG time. Targeting this show because the dancers are male is discrimination. Also, as other posters have remarked, don’t go to see the production if stuff like this bothers you. Quit trying to determine what other people should or should not see.

  6. seaborn says:

The complaint was either brought forth by jealous, lazy, overweight, boyfriends/husbands, or by women who attended, but didn’t get a lap dance.

  7. reader503 says:

Here are the two laws that were broke:
    1) .. “a restaurant general licensee, did permit entertainers to expose to view any portion of the cleft of the buttocks or genitals, contrary to Section 08-101-23(d) of the Rules of the Liquor Commission, County of Maui.”

2).. “a restaurant general licensee, did permit entertainers to perform acts which simulates sexual intercourse, contrary to Section 08-101-23(f)(1) of the Rules of the Liquor Commission, County of Maui.”

Either the performers broke the law, or didn’t. “Why” someone would complain is irrelevant to the fact of breaking the law. The Art Center is not fighting it, it accepts that the law was broke. End of story.
