Sophomore Larry Tuileta and freshmen Rado Parapunov and Brandon Rattray each had five kills and No. 7 Hawaii used 13 aces to open the season with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-9 sweep of Erskine in tonight’s second match of the 23rd Outrigger Resorts Volleyball Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Warriors (1-0) will face Princeton (0-1) in Friday’s second match. The Tigers lost to No. 15 Ball State 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 21-19, in today’s opener.
The Cardinals (1-0) take on the Flying Fleet (0-1) in Friday’s 4 p.m. match.
Tuileta moved from libero in Set 1 to outside hitter in Set 3, finishing with no errors in eight swings in the final set. Parapunov’s and Rattray’s kills all came in Set 2, as all 16 Warriors saw the court.
Parapunov was in on three of the team’s 8.5 blocks and Austin Matautia had four of the 13 aces.
