Diners at Waimalu Plaza closing

Diners, one of the longest-running plate-lunch restaurants to feed local customers, is closing its last location on Sunday.

That final restaurant, housed at Waimalu Plaza in Aiea, will open tomorrow for its last day of business from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to staff and a sign posted on site.

Established in 1963, the eatery is well known by its familiar orange lettering spelling out “Diners.”

Some of its popular plates over the years have included chicken katsu, teri beef, roast pork and hamburger steak.

A casualty of the raise in minimum pay rate?

      Worse yet…couldn’t last because of….O….O….OBAMCARE!!!!

Another of your continuous lies. The employees at this business would be covered by the PHCA. The ACA mandate does not apply to employers with 49 or less FTE and does not apply to part-time workers – those working less than 30 hours a week or 130 in a month.

How about making up something else? Sooner or later you’re bound to accidentally write something that’s true. Maybe CAPITALIZE more? That might help?

You just highlighted another fatal flaw with Barry Care. A small business is highly dis-incentivized to grow beyond 49 employees or offer full time work lest the punishing requirements of the perversely named ACA kick in. Another one of Barry al-Hussein’s many screw-ups. You remember Barry don’t you? He is the 44th white president of the USA.

Klastri, why do you accuse people of lying. You are the worse liar. Lying about polls, fake news and landslides. You are more crooked than lying Ted and Crooked Hilliary put together. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Klastri, was that you I seen going through the garbage looking for crow?

      • CEI says:

So right. Democrats can’t help meddling in the free market with strangling regulations and high taxes. The big guys can weather the storm but the mom and pop type places just can’t hang on. If this happens to Soon’s in Salt Lake I’ll be on suicide watch.

The original in Kalihi. During the 60’s, 5 hamburgers for $1. Farrington Governors Special, Friday nights.

After the original owner died, Diners went downhill rapidly and was never the same. Surprised this particular location lasted so long. Hardly any family operated businesses
last beyond the second generation if at that.

  4. matsuyama says:

Wait what? Last location? Did the Beretania Diners location close too?

  5. yhls says:

What a blast from the past. Hard to believe this one location held out so long. Once upon a time on Oahu, Diners was the spot. It set the tone for Grace’s and L&L.

  6. ukuleleblue says:

The Keeaumoku Diners was very convenient in the old days.

More like a victim of the Oahu rail project. Most Oahu residents avoid the areas around the rail line in Pearl City, Aiea and Pearlridge Center like the plague. Traffic all along Kam Hwy below the rail tracks is much worse since the put the trail track. I once went to Sears Pearlridge after the rail track was installed and coukd not believe the size and mass of the rail track and support columns. If possible don’t ever want to go to Pearlridge or any stores/ restaurants along Kam Hwy underneath the rail track. No wonder Amazon prime is so popular in Hawaii as most Oahu residents prefer to order as much stuff online and give up going to stores that requires fighting heavy traffic due to the Oahu rail, line. Thank Kirk for pretty much closing many businesses in Pearl City and Aiea and if allowed to go to Ala Mo Center all of the smaller businesses in Honolulu along the rail line will meet a similar fate.

Yeah, Teri beef plate extra mac salad…Ono!

  9. HAJAA1 says:

Maybe they should have accepted credit cards as payment….only cash. What’s cash?

  10. coloradowarrior says:

No tell me it’s not true! I’ve been going there since elementary school. 33 years! So sad today. The best mac salad & cheeseburger.
