Bridge work to close portion of Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa
A portion of Kamehameha Highway will be closed at the Karsten Thot Bridge in Wahiawa for rehabilitation work this week.
The highway between Kilani Avenue and Kamananui Road will close in both directions from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday, according to the state Department of Transportation. Traffic will be rerouted to Wilikina Drive and Kamananui Road.
The work is part of the Karsten Thot Bridge project, which includes repairing the deteriorated steel bridge framing and concrete cracks, as well as repainting the bridge. DOT said bridge rehabilitation work is slated for completion by the end of this year.
Additionally, the department will close a single lane, weather permitting, on Kamehameha Highway between Kilani Avenue and Whitmore Avenue from 9 p.m. today to 5 a.m. tomorrow. The closure will alternate between the northbound and southbound lane. Crews will contraflow traffic in the open lane.
