A 24-year-old Ewa Beach man who police said stabbed two women at his home last week was released Sunday pending investigation.
But the man remained at the hospital where he was receiving treatment, police said.
The stabbing unfolded at about 12:45 p.m. Friday after a 24-year-old woman and her 53-year-old mother went to the man’s house in the 91-1100 block of Laulaunui Street. An argument ensued and the man stabbed both women, police said.
Paramedics treated both women for multiple stab wounds to their upper bodies and took them in critical condition to a hospital. Police said their conditions have since improved.
Patrol officers arrested the man shortly after for investigation of first-degree attempted murder, and he was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu for cuts to his arms and an apparent drug overdose.
Aiea man charged in Ala Moana robbery
A 30-year-old man was charged Saturday with robbery after police said he injured people while trying to escape with stolen merchandise from a business in the Ala Moana area.
Warren Oliver of Aiea was charged with second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $50,000.
Police said Oliver caused someone bodily injury during his attempted escape at about 2:05 p.m. Friday. Police arrested Oliver about 4-1/2 hours later at Ala Moana Center.
Man dies while hiking Koko Crater Trail
A 32-year-old man died Sunday after collapsing and going into cardiac arrest on Koko Crater Trail.
Police said the man was hiking the trail when he collapsed and later died.
Firefighters responded to a hiker in distress at 10:18 a.m. and found bystanders had started cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Michael Jones. Firefighters brought the man down by helicopter to Koko Head District Park where he was transferred unresponsive to paramedics.
Swimmer who died at Hanauma Bay ID’d
A 35-year-old California man who died Friday after being found unresponsive in the water at Hanauma Bay has been identified as Xueming Lang.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified Lang, of Milpitas, Calif., and said an autopsy would be performed Tuesday.
Lifeguards pulled Lang to shore at about noon Friday. Firefighters and lifeguards tried to resuscitate him, and an Emergency Medical Services crew later performed advanced life-support treatment.
Arrest made in attempted robbery
A 34-year-old man was arrested Saturday after attempting to rob three men at the Navy Exchange Mall at Pearl Harbor, police said.
The man, of a Wahiawa address, brandished a knife while threatening the victims — ages 24, 39 and 41 — and trying to take their property at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
Police arrested the man at the mall, 4725 Bougainville Drive, at about 4:15 p.m. for investigation of four counts of first-degree robbery, terroristic threatening and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
