Fire causes $5,000 damage to Kapolei townhome

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm building fire which caused $5,000 in damage early this morning to a townhome in Kapolei.

Nine fire companies with 52 personnel responded to 91-1040 Kaiau Avenue at 1:08 a.m.

When they arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a shed under a stairwell of a two-story multi-unit townhome, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 1:09 a.m. and all second-alarm units were canceled.

The fire was fully extinguished at 1:23 a.m.

The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by neighbors and odor of the smoke, according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

    Wow, not a good way to celebrate Christmas. I hope they can recover and fix the damages soon. Good thing no one injured. Take care.
