Seven Hawaii surfers will compete on the World Surf League’s 2017 championship tours, led by reigning world champion John John Florence on the men’s tour and two-time world champ Carissa Moore on the women’s tour.
Moore is No. 3 in the final 2016 WSL rankings released Thursday.
Florence begins defense of his maiden world title with the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast in Australia in March. Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz (No. 12) and Ezekiel Lau, who will be on tour for the first time after finishing No. 10 in the WSL’s qualifying series, also will be in that event.
Next year, Moore and fellow Hawaii surfers Tatiana Weston-Webb (No. 4), Malia Manuel (No. 7) and Coco Ho, who qualified by finishing No. 5 in the qualifying series, will be chasing women’s champion Tyler Wright of Australia.
Two Hawaii surfers are replacement surfers for the world tour if anyone drops out — Keanu Asing for the men’s tour and Alessa Quizon for the women’s tour.
The women’s tour opens with the Roxy Pro Gold Coast in Australia in March.
