After arriving from chilly Washington, D.C., Barack Obama began his last annual holiday vacation in Hawaii as president by soaking in balmy weather on the links.
He played golf for more than four hours under mostly sunny skies at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Obama was joined by regular Hawaii golfing buddy and Punahou School classmate Bobby Titcomb and aides Joe Paulsen, Michael Brush and Luke Rosa.
Obama and his family touched down Friday at about 10:50 p.m. at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. He exited Air Force One holding hands with his older daughter, Malia, followed by daughter Sasha and first lady Michelle.
Waiting to greet the family were Adm. Harry Harris, commander of U.S. Pacific Command; U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz; Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell; and Gov. David Ige.
Obama left his Kailua vacation rental home Saturday at about 10 a.m. and passed a few protesters who were holding signs at the end of Kailuana Place. The demonstrators called for the closure of Guantanamo Bay, clemency for court-martialed soldier Chelsea Manning and ending the Gaza blockade, and also requested that Obama stop and talk.
By 2:50 p.m., he was back at the Kailua rental home, where he stayed for the rest of the day. As usual, security was tight on Kailuana Place and on the beach and ocean.
