Charities can apply for free storage

CRAIG T. KOJIMA / 2007

The holiday season often inspires community members to step up and support local charities that serve the needy with donations of nonperishable food, household goods and other items.

Finding a cool, dry and secure space to store the largesse while awaiting distribution can be a problem, so Hawaii Self Storage is donating use of 300 step-up storage units at its Mililani and Kapolei West locations for a three-month period.

The 5-by-5-by-3-foot units sit atop larger indoor storage units, with access provided via a rolling stepladder.

Nonprofits should submit a letter of request via email to Kortney Dacanay at kortney@hawaiiselfstorage.net that includes:

>> Reason for storage.

>> Description of items to be stored.

>> Approximate amount of space needed.

The offer is part of Hawaii Self Storage’s Step-Up for Non-Profits campaign under its Community Pride banner that also supports college scholarships, youth literacy, athletic sponsorships and more.
