A high-surf warning remains in effect until at least noon today for the north shores of Oahu and Maui, with waves of 20 to 25 feet forecast.
The warning also covers the north and west shores of Kauai, Niihau and Molokai, the National Weather Service said.
A less serious high-surf advisory remains in effect for the Waianae Coast and Hawaii island’s north shore.
The combination of a large north-northwest swell and a high tide around sunrise today could wash over some roadways in vulnerable areas, the weather service said.
The agency issued a small-craft advisory for nearshore waters and channels until at least 6 p.m. today, with winds of 23 to 29 mph and seas of 9 to 13 feet.
A low-pressure system will move south and pass just west of the main island chain this weekend, bringing an increase in rain and a slight chance for thunderstorms through Sunday, the weather service said. Tradewinds will return Monday.
