Heavy rains cause flooding on Maui

The earlier flash flood warning for Maui has expired.

Maui is under a flash flood warning until at least 10:30 p.m., with rain falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some locations.
The National Weather Service said flash flooding prompted the closure of Highway 30 between North Kihei Junction and Papalaua Wayside Park around 7:25 p.m.
Additional flooding can be expected over the next few hours, the weather service said.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low-lying areas.
The agency warned against crossing floodwaters either in a vehicle or by foot.
At 6:35 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over central and west Maui, the weather service said.
