Former hot prospect from American Samoa to rejoin Warriors

One of the University of Hawaii football team’s top prospects in 2013 is a key member of the Rainbow Warriors’ 2017 recruiting class.

Defensive end Jamie Tago, who was at Garden City College this past season, accepted an offer to rejoin the Warriors in January. His commitment becomes official on Wednesday, the NCAA signing day for mid-year transfers.

Tago is a 2013 graduate of Samoana High. He was rated as American Samoa’s No. 4 prospect that year when he signed with the Warriors.

As a grayshirt, Tago delayed enrolling at UH until January 2014. He redshirted that year. He played in three games in 2015. He was expected to compete for a starting job this season but departed in the spring because of a non-football situation.

He will have two years to play two UH seasons.

A week ago, Tago helped lead the undefeated Garden City Broncbusters to winning the NJCAA National Football Championship, finishing that game, tied for second with seven solo tackles including one for a loss. He amassed 71 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 1 INT and 4 forced fumbles this season, demonstrating his athleticism at the defensive end position. Good to see the American Samoa-to-Hawaii recruiting pipeline is still open. Go Warriors!

Tago was also credited with a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry in the 2016 NJCAA National Football Championship game to go along with his seven solo tackles including one for a loss. In my opinion, he had the best defensive performance for Garden City in this game.

How awesome is that? Just what we needed, a few more players like him and the Warriors can play defense like the good old days. If KT somehow gets reinstated then we are on our way back up again. Thanks Jamie for coming back.
