Police have opened an attempted murder investigation after a man driving a truck rear-ended a car Friday night in Mililani Mauka.
The crash left the unrestrained driver of the truck, age 24, in critical condition with face and head injuries, and a family of four that was in the car in serious condition, an Emergency Medical Services report said.
Paramedics took the man and the family — a 50-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, and two girls, ages 9 and 13 — to the hospital. The family members were wearing seat belts and reported neck, back, or chest pains, an Emergency Medical Services report said.
Police said witnesses reported it appeared the man intentionally struck the car about 10 p.m. Friday on Lehiwa Drive near Mililani Middle School.
Police arrested the suspect about 3:10 a.m. for investigation of first-degree attempted murder.
Man, 26, critically hurt in crash
Alcohol appears to be a factor in a Waimanalo crash that left a 26-year-old man in critical condition Saturday morning, police said.
The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. on Ala Koa Street.
The driver was traveling north on Ala Koa when he lost control and hit a parked vehicle, which struck two other parked vehicles, police said.
He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
