It’s official: Warriors earn Hawaii Bowl invitation

The University of Hawaii football team today was officially invited to play in the Dec. 24 Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium.

The Rainbow Warriors will play Middle Tennessee in a game that will be televised nationally.
It will mark the Warriors’ first postseason bowl participation since the 2010 Hawaii Bowl.
The invitation triggers a one-year extension on a contract head coach Nick Rolovich signed in November 2015. That deal, which was set to expire at the end of the 2019 season, will now keep Rolovich under contract through the 2020 season.
The Warriors were 6-7 during the regular season, but qualified for the postseason because there were not enough .500-or-better FBS teams to fill the 80 bowl berths.

This so-called “bowl” is an embarrassment. The uSA is too beleaguered by these manufactured bowls and poor play from bad teams in bad conferences.
You have a small mind to not to understand the bigger picture plus if you don’t give a rip about athletics than keep it to yourself.
Like how Stephen Tsai mentioned in the article’s title that UH did “earn” their bowl invite. Seven teams from the Mountain West are now officially slated to play in bowl games, which shows bowl organizers do respect the MWC. While 80 football teams playing in bowl games does seem like a lot, other college sports teams have lots of teams participating in post season play. Take for example college hoops which has 100 teams participating in the NCAA (68 teams) and NIT (32 teams) tournaments. And besides, if football earns the lion’s share of revenue for most college athletic programs, who’s to say football should take a back seat to other collegiate sports teams. Go Warriors!

Congratulations Coach Rolo and the Warriors. Regardless of varying opinions, this is a very positive step forward towards the improvement for the totality of the program. Let’s remember where the program was just before Rolo’s arrival and realize that improvement will take time. We, shouldn’t expect a super fast turnaround like when JJ was here. That was once in a lifetime and the stars where aligned. Most programs don’t see that kind of improvement statistically happening. Let’s support the coach and the team by wishing them the best win or lose, and that the big picture is that we should be grateful that the program is heading in the right direction.

This Toilet Bowl is ranked 38 out of the 40 bowl games and who the heck is going to buy tickets and go see a losing team and the opposing team hardly anyone knows about…they’re lucky if they get ten thousand people out there…..what a joke!! Hawaii should have shown its pride and deny the Toilet Bowl invite and use that as an inspiration to what they must achieve in getting and EARNING A WINNING RECORD to get invited to the Hawaii Bowl…..to be invited to this bowl game because there is not enough teams with a winning record to earn that spot is just ridiculous…..its like giving every kid a star for attending school…..and all this writeup about beating Univ. of Mass. which is one of the worse teams in the Div. 1 football division….wow…..all the writeup talking about what an accomplishment that was beating Univ. of Mass. I know im going to take much criticism but denying this invite and using it as an inspiration to earn a winning record and what they need to achieve in the future would be a feather in the cap and show the nation that Hawaii has character and pride and is not unlike the rest of the losers that are going to a bowl game…….TOILET BOWL or no TOILET BOWL.

should be a good game Middle Tennessee State is 8-4 high scoring offense and gives up a lot points to there opponents. there last game of the season they won 70 something to 50 something they also beat Missouri of SEC 50-45 so they score a lot but also give up a lot of points. go Warriors.
