Danny Akaka stands beside the Ahu o Kalahuipuaa, which was constructed of stone in two days and blessed on the third day, Nov. 20, 2002. It was created to represent the connection between the land, its ancestral past and Akua (God); to commemorate Mauna Lani Resort’s 30th anniversary; and to mark the annual makahiki festivities that occurred throughout the islands during that time of the year. The ahu is beside Hopeala Fishpond.
