The Maryknoll Lady Spartans (2-0) hit six first-half 3-pointers to open a 30-12 lead en route to a 57-39 win over their top rival in the ILH, the Punahou Buffanblu, in an ILH girls basketball game at Maryknoll on Tuesday.
Kamalu Kamakawiwo‘ole led the way with 19 points and Chayse Milne added 14.
Kamakawiwo‘ole made two of her three treys in the opening quarter to set the tone. Her second triple gave Maryknoll a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After Milne swished two 3-pointers and Kodee Viena added another, Maryknoll was on a 22-5 run to end the first half. Punahou shot 4-for-23 from the field against Maryknoll’s man defense before intermission.
Kamaile Kandiah led Punahou (1-1) with 24 points, including 13 in the final quarter as the visitors cut the lead to 38-29. Kamakawiwo‘ole hit an NBA-distance trey and drove for a bucket, and Milne drilled her fourth 3-pointer as the Spartans went on a 16-2 run to put the game out of reach.

The Owls dominated the Patriots in a 31-0 first quarter, then cruised to an easy victory in the season opener for both teams. Emma Porter and Cierra Kameehonua each had 11 points to lead Mid-Pacific. Mid-Pacific didn’t allow Christian Academy to score more than four points in any quarter.
