The University of Hawaii beach volleyball team faced international competition at the Pac Rim Beach Volleyball Championships at Queen’s Beach on Friday.
Former SandBows Heather Boyan and All-American Katie Spieler represented Team USA and defeated UH’s Hannah Rooks and Ari Homayun 21-16, 21-15 to kick off the tourney. Hawaii’s top pair of Mikayla Tucker and Morgan Martin swept Boyan and Spieler later in the day, 21-17, 21-16.
UH’s Sydney Shinn and Cyrene Hertzog swept Hawaii Republic’s Rachel Sherman and Kaui Salzman 21-16, 21-18, while SandBows Hi‘ilawe Huddleston and Amy Ozee beat New Zealand’s Julia Tilley and Alice Bain, 21-16, 21-19.
Japan’s Megumi Murakami and Miki Ishii and Canada’s Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara finished undefeated on Day 1.
