San Jose State could not miss down the stretch and the Spartans dealt Hawaii its first home loss of the season, 77-61, in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH’s eight-game home winning streak, going back to last season, was snapped as the Wahine’s former WAC foe shot 10-for-16 in the fourth quarter to run away with it.

Wing Sarah Toeaina scored a career-high 24 points on 9-for-17 shooting in the loss.

Briana Harris converted a three-point play to make it 60-54 with 5:52 to play, but the Spartans (2-3), who led by eight at halftime, countered with an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Toeaina tied her career high of 14 by halftime on 5-for-10 shooting, but UH trailed 35-27.

SJSU went on a 12-2 run in the third, extending the lead to 47-34. UH faced an 11-point deficit at the end of three periods.

Spartans freshman guard Fa-Ko-Fieme‘a Hafoka, a Lahainaluna graduate, had a rebound and an assist in 11 minutes.

UH (2-3) hosts Oregon on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
