The sugar industry changed Hawaii in profound ways. It brought Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Filipinos and Portuguese as well as the companies they founded and products they served. Leonard’s Bakery, Dillingham Saimin, ABC Stores (pictured) and Kuakini Medical Center are all businesses founded by immigrants or their descendants.
