“Hoku the Seal’s Three Wishes,” written and illustrated by Gill McBarnet (Ruwanga Trading, $9.95), tells the tale of a small monk seal who learns the importance of appreciating who he is and his own abilities.

He’s granted three wishes that allow him to be more like others, but his mama reminds him that he’s perfect as is.
