In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the public is invited to an event celebrating the Hawaii launch of two books written or edited by daughters whose fathers fought in World War II.

Marie Silva Vallejo wrote “The Battle of Ising,” which centers on her father’s role as the commander of 1,500 Filipino fighters in the battle that led to the liberation of Mindanao in1945.

Pepi Nieva edited “Cadet, Soldier, Guerrilla Fighter,” a war memoir by her father, Antonio A. Nieva, a Bataan Death March survivor. Some of his drawings are included.

The authors will be present at the free reception at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Philippine Consulate, 2433 Pali Highway. RSVP by Friday by emailing fauw@outlook.com or calling 225-1219.

Hakubundo marks first year with book swap, storytelling

Hakubundo Bookstore marks its first anniversary from 11 a.m. to noon today at Ward Warehouse Amphitheatre. Books can be brought in and swapped or donated, with all proceeds going to the nonprofit organization Read Aloud America. The first 100 participants will receive balloons, a Hakubundo tote bag and 2017 desk calendar.

Alvin “Papa” Okami of KoAloha and DJ Chikapin will read “Momotaro (Peach Boy)” aloud in English and Japanese.

Everything in the Hakubundo store will be 30 percent off all day, and from 1 to 3 p.m., local artist Lauren Roth will autograph her work for buyers at the store. Call 947-5503.
