U.S. House swears in Hanabusa, 2 others

Democrats Colleen Hanabusa of Hawaii and Dwight Evans of Pennsylvania and Republican James Comer of Kentucky were sworn in Monday night by House Speaker Paul Ryan. All three won special elections last week to fill vacant seats.
Hanabusa is replacing Democratic Rep. Mark Takai, who died of cancer this summer. She won both the 1st Congressional District special election for Takai’s current term and the general election race for the two-year term beginning in January. Hanabusa served two terms in the House from 2011 to 2015 before making an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate.
“My return to the U.S. House of Representatives is bittersweet following the unfortunate and untimely passing of my dear friend, Mark Takai,” she said in a statement. “I am, however, humbled that the voters of Hawaii’s First Congressional District have put their trust and faith in me to continue to fight for their values and best interests in our nation’s capital.”
Evans is replacing Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah, who resigned in June after being convicted of using federal grants and nonprofit funds to repay an illegal loan. And Comer is filling the seat vacated by Republican Rep. Ed Whitfield, who resigned in September amid a House ethics investigation.

And runs for the US House of Reps. Man ! I thought she was in there for the duration on Rail ? So ask yourself…….

our congressional delegation better get with the program and LEARN HOW TO GET ALONG in the new fish pond! the new Republican congress will have a new dynamic to contend with. our delegation is the only (or one the very few remaining) fully Democratic contingents left. of that group, i believe only Gabbard has the skill, the temperment, and the across-the-aisle-contacts to get the real job done for our state. think about it – out side of Takai most have been riding the coattail of the Obama lame duck regime (which is now on the outs, as in never, never land). only my humble view from the cheap seats…..
