A 63-year-old surfer died Saturday after he was found face down in the water off North Kohala, Hawaii island firefighters said.
Surfers at a break known as Kohala Lighthouse found the man not breathing and without a pulse at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday, firefighters said. The surfers began CPR in the water and brought the man back to shore, where firefighters continued trying to resuscitate him.
Firefighters used a helicopters to lift the surfer up a cliff face to awaiting paramedics, who took him to Kohala Hospital.
Firefighters classified the incident as a drowning.
Motorcyclist is critically injured in crash
A 20-year-old man was in critical condition after crashing a motorcycle Friday night on Pali Highway in Kailua, police said.
The Kailua resident lost control while heading Kailua-bound, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the road at about 11:10 p.m., police said. It was unknown why the man lost control.
He was wearing a helmet at the time and was taken in critical condition to a hospital.
Woman arrested in alleged theft of boat
A 28-year-old woman was arrested Friday after she took control of a man’s motorboat without permission off Waikiki, police said.
The incident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. Friday, police said. The boat, owned by a 53-year-old man, is valued at more than $20,000.
Officers arrested the woman about 7 p.m. Friday for investigation of first-degree theft.
