The University of Hawaii softball team swept its two games Saturday during the Kama‘aina Classic, beating BYU-Hawaii 20-0 and Chaminade 2-1.
In game one, the Rainbow Wahine launched five home runs and the UH pitchers combined for a perfect game.
Angelique Ramos, Heather Morales, Kanani Aina Cabrales, Calle Heen and Naomi Monahan all homered.
Brittany Hitchcock tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts. Monahan and Briana Wheeler pitched one inning each.
In game two, Heather Cameron hit a walk-off solo home run to down the Silverswords.
Chaminade’s Kayla Higuchi threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with a walk.
Aina Cabrales earned the complete game win to improve, giving up just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
UH men’s golf near the bottom in Maui
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team is in 20th place after shooting a 12-over 296 in the second round of the Ka‘anapali Classic in Lahainai.
Hawaii Hilo, the other Hawaii team in the invitational, is last in 24th after shooting a 15-over 299.
Georgia leads the tournament with an 18-under total of 550, 10 strokes ahead of LSU. Georgia’s Greyson Sigg and Kansas’ Chase Hanna are tied atop the individual leaderboard with two-round totals of 9-under 133. Hawaii’s Skye Inakoshi and Nicholaus Nelson are tied for 26th with two-round totals of 142.
The tournament wraps up today.
Hawaii Pacific edges BYU-Hawaii in 5
Pomai Recca had 16 kills and Alison McCollum and Perla Escobar each added 13 as the Hawaii Pacific volleyball team beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 25-16, 25-27, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10 on Saturday at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.
The Sharks improved to 15-9, 11-4. Leilani Adolpho and Sinamoni Tonga each had 14 kills for the Seasiders (6-18, 4-11).
>> Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 19 kills as Hawaii Hilo defeated Chaminade 28-26, 25-23, 25-14 at McCabe Gym. The Vulcans improved to 10-11 overall and 8-8 in the PacWest. Emma Tecklenburg finished with 14 kills for the Silverswords (13-12, 7-9).
BYUH men’s soccer ends season with win
Daniel Corbett scored in the 52nd minute and Edgar Mesa Perez added a goal in the 57th minute as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s soccer team capped its season with a 2-1 victory over Dominican on Saturday in San Rafael, Calif.
The Seasiders improved to 6-6-4 and 5-5-3 in the PacWest, while the Penguins fell to 4-13-1, 4-8-1.
>> In the the women’s matchup of the same teams, the Seasiders edged the Penguins 1-0 as Sydney Eddy scored in the 29th minute.
BYUH finished at 7-8-2 overall and 6-6-1 in conference play, while Dominican finishes 7-6-4, 6-4-2.
>> Jesus Ortega scored just three minutes in, Rodrigo Castellanos added a goal at the 34-minute mark and Anthony Novella added another one in the 79th minute as Hawaii Hilo tied Holy Names 3-3 in Oakland.
The Vulcans moved to 1-14-2, 0-11-2 PacWest, while the Hawks went to 2-13-3, 2-9-2.
>> Sven Koenig scored at 12:36 and 58:34, but Hawaii Pacific fell to Fresno Pacific 6-2 in Fresno, Calif.
The Sunbirds improved to 8-7-3, 7-4-2 PacWest, while the Sharks dropped to 6-7-4, 6-5-2.
>> Esteban Berumen scored four goals and assisted on the other as Notre Dame de Namur beat Chaminade 5-0 in Belmont, Calif.
The Argonauts improved to 9-9, 7-6 PacWest, while the Silverswords dropped to 5-9-1, 5-7-1.
>> In the women’s matchup, Chaminade ended its season with a 4-0 loss. Alina Martinez scored two goals for Notre Dame de Namur and Susan Whitney and Allyssa Valente each added one.
The Argos improved to 7-9-2 overall and 5-7-1 in conference play. Although the Silverswords dropped to 4-8-1, 4-11-1, their four conference wins are a program record.
