Hula Bowl to be played in N.C.; organizers plan return to Hawaii
RALEIGH, N.C. » The Hula Bowl is coming back and will be played in North Carolina in January 2018.
Officials with the postseason All-Star game and state announced today the game will resume following the 2017 season and will be played at Carter-Finley Stadium, North Carolina State’s home field in Raleigh.
The game was played annually in Hawaii beginning in 1946, and it was last played in 2008.
Organizers said in their announcement that they plan to rotate between North Carolina and Hawaii starting in 2019.
Jennifer Logan, who owns Hula Bowl LLC, says she wanted “a new East Coast home” for the game and decided on Raleigh because of the North Carolina Triangle’s strong college representation.
Bowl officials say they will invite seniors, a “limited number” of juniors and some players from outside the United States.

Great picture of eager fans in the stands. Seems to say, keep it in North Carolina every year.
Because when I think of “Hula”, I think of North Carolina…
I hope they call the teams “Kai” and “Aina”. That will really screw some up.
Really? Another revenue looser.
Wait…. NCAA boycott of North Carolina over? Hawaii wants its name attached to the anti-LGBT state
I agree. As people are withdrawing from sports in NC…do we want our “Hula” associated with that state. They should rename the Bowl.
Having the Hula Bowl in North Carolina is insulting to Hawaii as it is a further reminder to us that Hawaii wasn’t good enough to host the game every year. We should boycott that event entirely and by doing so it would give the owner a bad taste in her mouth and maybe she’ll change the name to something else. It’s obviously about the money. It’s definitely not about Hawaii if it’s being played in another state. NC will get the tourist dollars while using our moniker.
TMT protestors should protest there cause using our sacred name Hula.
It’s hard to see the marketing logic of having a “Hula Bowl” in another state. Did atate of Hawaii officials do something wrong to deserve this kind of desertion? Or is the new owner asking for too much money and lacking creativity and connections to make it work anywhere else but in familiar Southern territory? Somehow, none of this makes marketing sense. It’s like putting the Gator Bowl in Hawaii.
all the way around, a totally dumb idea
Take the game to North Carolina but leave the name in Hawaii. The name should have been trade marked only in Hawaii. This is an insult to Hawaii to have the name of Hula Bowl attached to an all star game played in North Carolina.
THE GAME WILL NOT BE A REAL GAME, BUT SOMETHING LIKE THE PRO BOWL WITH PLAYERS “ACTING” LIKE FB PLAYERS IN A GAME. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS EVENT.
ACTUALLLY, ACTING IN A MOVIE ABOUT FOOTBALL.
No point of bringing the Hula Bowl back to Honolulu. There just is no interest in the game. Even the bowl game we have here has shown a decline in attendance and wonder how long
that will be able to be viable economically. Hawaii is just too small a market and the cost to come here too high for most folks just to come here for a bowl game.
With the overabundance of bowl games now being played and easily viewed on television, the drawing power of such games has declined even on the mainland.
Time for the Hula Bowl to go the way of the dodo bird.
Sounds like a money loser! Hula Bowl in NC? Doesn’t make any sense…
Will make some cents!!!
Then give it a different name when it’s not played in Hawaii.
cant you just see all those drunken pasty obese hogs out there wearing grass skirts and plastic lei, making fools out of themselves and the art of Hula. Pathetic
Hey KWAY…easy man Ever been there? Fat, drunken hogs here too man. Doing all sorts of stupid stuff.
