FBI news too late to sway millions of early voters

ASSOCIATED PRESS

The FBI’s disclosure that it was reviewing emails related to Hillary Clinton’s email investigation will make no difference to tens of millions of voters who have already cast ballots.

WASHINGTON >> Donald Trump’s supporters may hope that last week’s FBI revelation about the Hillary Clinton email investigation might give the Republican’s campaign a boost. But it’s already too late for Trump to win over around a fifth of American voters, including many of the most coveted ones: those in battleground states.

Tens of millions of voters had already cast ballots before news broke Friday that the FBI was examining newly discovered emails that might be pertinent to the dormant investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server.

In critical states such as Florida, Nevada and Colorado, one-third or more of the expected ballots have already been cast. The breakdown of those voters by party affiliation, race and other factors points to an advantage for Clinton. That will make it more difficult for Trump to capitalize on the FBI news.

Overall, early voting — by mail and at polling stations — is underway in 37 states.

At least 24.6 million votes have been cast, far higher than the rate in 2012, according to Associated Press data. That represents nearly 20 percent of the total votes expected nationwide, if turnout is similar to 2012. In all, more than 46 million people — or as much as 40 percent of the electorate — are expected to vote before Election Day, Nov. 8.

A look at voting so far in key states:

———

FLORIDA

More than 3.7 million early ballots have been cast, or nearly half the total votes cast in Florida in 2012. Democratic ballots are now virtually tied with those cast by registered Republicans, each with about 40 percent. Democrats have kept it close during mail balloting, when Republicans historically have done better. GOP analysts say Democrats now hold the advantage because the latter party typically runs up big advantages during early in-person voting, which began last week. Barack Obama won the state in 2008 and 2012. It’s a must-win state for Trump.

NORTH CAROLINA

At least 1.6 million votes have been cast, or more than one-third of total ballots in 2012. Democratic ballots lead, 44 percent to 31 percent. Democrats had been running ahead of the 2012 pace until last week, when they dipped below 2012 levels. But that may be because fewer polling places were open in the first week of in-person voting compared with 2012. More polling locations have since opened and Democrats are starting to make up ground. Republicans remain slightly ahead of 2012 levels. Republican Mitt Romney won the state in 2012 by 92,000 votes. It’s another state Trump can’t afford to lose.

———

NEVADA

More than 457,000 residents have voted, nearly half the total 1 million votes cast in 2012. Democratic ballots are currently ahead, 44 percent to 36 percent. That’s similar to the lead Democrats held at this point in 2012, when Obama won the state by 6 percentage points.

———

COLORADO

At least 866,000 people have voted, or roughly one-third the total votes in 2012. Democratic ballots lead, 38 percent to 35 percent. That’s a change from this point in 2012, when Republicans were slightly ahead in ballots cast. Obama won the state in 2012 by 5 percentage points.

———

IOWA

More than 398,000 ballots have been cast, or about one-fourth the total ballots in 2012. Democratic ballots are ahead, 45 percent to 34 percent. Democrats have been running further behind compared to 2012 levels, although there were indications of some Democratic momentum before Friday’s FBI news. The percentage breakdown in ballots cast by party is generally similar to 2012, when Obama won the state based on his strength in the early vote.

The renewed investigation of the Clinton email scandal is a very good example of why early voting, except by absentee ballots, should be eliminated. Many things can happen during a campaign that will sway voters one way or another. When votes have been cast before something damaging becomes public during a campaign, it is too late to change those votes. We need to get back to the time when we had an Election Day in America when everyone who wanted to vote went to the polls on that day. Absentee ballots could be casts be people who could not make it to the polls on Election day. We still have what is officially called Election Day but in reality, we have Election Weeks or Election Months in 37 states.

  2. Crackers says:

Make Election Day a national day to vote even if it is a holiday. People need to be engaged in their country’s direction every two years, and eliminate early voting.

Wait until the other shoe drops when WikiLeaks releases another round of emails this week.

Another propaganda story in the hopes to discourage the voters not to go to the polling stations or turn in their absentee ballot as a potential vote for Trump. Trump is leading and the very purpose for this story. There is a discord between the tens of thousands of people attending a Trump rally vs. Hillary’s rallies attendance and what the national survey polls reflect.

Trump has summed it up in one word “rigged”.

Seeing is believing, look for yourselves at the images of Trump’s and Hillary’s rallies on the web. People relate to Trump and he has a Rockstar quality about him. Watch videos online of Trump’s rallies, it’s electric.

The renewed investigation of the Clinton email scandal is a very good example of why James Comey should get sent back to FBI director training (or simply fired). With his choice of timing, he created a political issue, a violation of the Hatch Act.

On the other hand, this investigation, for now, is just a technicality because a batch of previously unseen emails were found. Comey had already found that, while Clinton was “extremely careless,” there was no reason to file criminal charges.

Normal people reading normal media understand that, and this new investigation shouldn’t change anything—unless some surprise email from Hillary to “Carlos Danger” contains some mind-blowing espionage evidence.

Abnormal people will find some unsubstantiated conspiracy theory to rave about, and imagine that “this is bigger than Watergate!”

Trump supporters, what do you really think is in the Anthony Weiner emails that will incriminate Clinton. Please be specific about the charges, and what evidence you base that on.

To the Donald, FBI stands for Female Body Inspector.

The Clintons have always been one step ahead of Karmic Justice…until now. Humpty Dumpty, a.k.a. Waldo, a.k.a. the real estate agent in polyester and her lecherous white trash husband may finally be held to account. The Clinton controlled media can print stories like this one to keep her supporters from jumping ship but in the end it will be futile. The people have been given a rare opportunity to see behind the curtain and what they see sickens them. The condescension, the lies, the greed, the lives ruined, all laid bare for the world to see. Defending the Clintons is becoming a reputation killer so you can expect more democrats (Clinton loyalist Doug Schoen for example) to withdraw support in the coming days.

while most rabid female felon brown shirts are spinning the latest email investigation as one that will not uncover anything new as far as mishandling classified information, the f.b.i. agents involved have already uncovered emails that show the female felon’s campaign staffers working simultaneously at the state department and the criminal money laundering operation run as the clinton crime family charity.

huma has gone deep and is silent for days. hope she doesn’t fall victim of the clinton suicide syndrome known as arkancide.

    • dragoninwater says:

Too early in the game for Huma to commit suicide. She’ll most likely ask HitLIARy for the honors to assist in her suicide (legal in a few states now) when the campaign winds down and the associated press shifts focus back on the economy instead of the “wieners” in these women’s lives competing for new young interns at the White House.

  9. klastri says:

It’s entertaining to read the Trump supporters on here in their echo chamber, writing that Mr. Trump is going to win. He isn’t. It looks like he’s going to lose by a substantial margin. So get ready for four years – and more likely eight years – of President Hillary Clinton.

Enjoy your delusion while it lasts. Smart people are not going to vote for Donald Trump. Period.

    • sarge22 says:

Lying again. Smart people will push Trump over the finish line as HiLIARy fades and justice prevails. Trump and GOLD up today and stocks are down. The writing is on the wall.

      • klastri says:

Like I said, enjoy your delusion.

And I think it’s funny that you think a rise in the gold price and a reduction in stock prices are things to be celebrated. Do you know anything about any subject?

      • dragoninwater says:

Yep! Goldman Sachs, Warren Buffet and countless other 1% elite in the world are pulling out. They know that the economy has been running on borrowed ObamaNomics time. There’s only so much money the FED you can print out of thin air before it all implodes. They’re all ghastly afraid of Trump pulling the plug on the massive jug of Kool-Aid Obama and the FED have been feeding the public.

      • sarge22 says:

Klasless..Got Gold. All attempts are being made to hold up the market in support of lying crooked Ms Clinton until the election. I will be laughing as gold goes to $2000/oz and the printing of fiat money continues. Have you heard the name Ron Paul in your sheltered space? Ask your wife as she is evidently much smarter than you. Trump up stock market down. End the Fed.

    • kuroiwaj says:

IRT Klastri, thus you will be voting for Mr. Donald J. Trump? I’m truly beginning to wonder if you are an attorney. The developments against Ms. Hillary is presenting to the citizens of the United States the 1980 election.

It might be too late, but impeachment is still a possibility.
