Kahuku cruises to another OIA title
Kahuku quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava accounted for four first-half touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Red Raiders to a 44-8 win over No. 4 Farrington tonight at Aloha Stadium in the OIA Division I championship game.
The game was called at 11:15 p.m. with 5:07 remaining on the clock as Farrington receiver Mosi Afe was tended to by medical staff after being injured on a play.
Elvis Vakapuna rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown for Kahuku (10-1), which won its 25th OIA football title and extended its winning streak against Hawaii teams to 23 games.
Kekaula Kaniho had his fourth interception return for a touchdown in his past five games for Kahuku, which has scored 12 touchdowns on defense this season.
Maiava scored on touchdown runs of 11 and 65 yards and also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Pua Falemalu and a 52-yard score to Royce Pao.
Farrington running back Challen Faamatau, the state’s leading rusher entering the game, scored his 16th rushing touchdown of the season on a 9-yard run in the first quarter.

He finished with 52 rushing yards on 17 attempts.

That win streak is coming to an end this year. St. Louis will take them in the state tournament.
Kahuku did not cruise to victory it was a battle in the trenches and injuries on both sides. Cruising is what the ILH is doing resting 3 weeks for the state tourney.
