A lavishly illustrated book featuring Hawaiian feather work has won the R.L. Shep Ethnic Textiles Book Award for 2015, an annual award given by the Textile Society of America to a publication in the field of ethnic textile studies.
Titled “Royal Hawaiian Featherwork: Na Hulu Ali‘i” and edited by Leah Calderia, Christina Hellmich, Adrienne Kaeppler, Betty Lou Kam and Roger G. Rose, the book served as the catalog for the first comprehensive show in the U.S. of Hawaiian feather-work helmets, cloaks, kahili, images and lei loaned from national and international museums. The book was co- produced by Bishop Museum, University of Hawai‘i Press and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
