A Nuuanu man, who once was a scout-team kicker on the University of Hawaii football team, was charged Wednesday in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman downtown last month.
Joseph Uglietto, 24, was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of third-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, a protective order violation, and violation of privacy. His bail was set at $500,000.
Police said Uglietto restrained a 22-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her at about 11 p.m. Sept. 23.
According to hawaiiathletics.com, Uglietto was a placekicker who sat out in 2012 due to NCAA transfer rules and was a member of the scout team in 2013. He did not see action in any games that year, the website said.
Uglietto finished high school in Massachusetts and played for Colgate University in New York his freshman year before transferring to UH, the website said.
He was arrested downtown Monday afternoon and was being held at the main police cellblock.
