Mariel Galdiano’s first collegiate tournament in her home state could have only gotten slightly better.
The UCLA freshman shot a 5-under 68 on Tuesday to jump six spots and finish in second place at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview in Kohala, Hawaii.
Galdiano finished the tournament at 4-under 215 trailing only USC’s Robynn Ree, who closed two shots ahead of Galdiano.
The 2016 Punahou alumna shot a bogey-free round to end the tournament with four birdies and an eagle on No. 13 at the Nanea Golf Club.
She played the final 36 holes in 6-under par.
Southern Cal’s Allisen Corpuz, who was teammates with Galdiano last year at Punahou, finished in a tie for 13th place at 3 over. Corpuz opened with a 3-under 70 and closed with an even-par round but couldn’t shake off a 79 in the second round.
Colorado junior Brittany Fan (Kamehameha ’14) finished in a tie for 47th place at 17 over.
