Early walk-in voting for the general election begins today and will go through Saturday, Nov. 5.
On Oahu, voting locations will be open at Honolulu Hale and Kapolei Hale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
It’s also not too late to vote by mail. Requests for a mail ballot must be received by the county clerk’s office by Nov. 1.
The ballot needs to be in to election officials by 6 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8, to be counted.
Election officials are hoping for better turnout than in the August primary, which marked a record low for Hawaii. Only 34.7 percent of registered voters bothered to cast ballots.
In addition to the contentious presidential race, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell is fighting to retain his seat against former U.S. Rep. and City Councilman Charles Djou. There are also a number of seats in the Hawaii Legislature and County Councils at stake, and voters will get to weigh in on 20 proposed amendments to the County Charter.
