Hawaiian Airlines’ earnings jumped 46.3 percent in the third quarter on the strength of low fuel prices, strong demand across its network and moderate industry capacity growth.

Meanwhile ticket prices skyrockets and Hawaiian Air still charges for baggage. Greed. Monopoly.

  2. timopd says:

Flew from HNL to Kauai recently for a funeral $400.00 round trip.

  3. justmyview371 says:

Not enough. Hawaiian will raise its fares and other charges for Hawaii residents.

  4. jbguzior says:

now that fuel costs are under control, and profits are up, isn’t time to eliminate the bag fees????

    • HIE says:

Why? If they got rid of the bag fees, they’d just raise the ticket prices for everyone. You want to take bags? Pay the fees. And it’s not like Hawaiian is the only airline charging bag fees.

    • roughrider says:

Hawaiian made $81 million in baggage fees in 2015; you really think they’re gonna dump the golden goose?

    • PoiDoggy says:

Yeah, they won’t give ’em up because of the money they make from bag fees. Alas. I liked it much better when everything was included in one price. No extra charge for bags, meals, carry ons (some airlines have them), booking over the phone (some airlines have this), charging you for checking in at the airport, etc.

      • GooglyMoogly says:

Really? This way, you’re only paying for the services you’re using. If they went back to the old pricing, your ticket would be much more expensive.

      • steveoctober says:

I have no problem with baggage fees. That’s extra labor needed to handle them & burns up extra fuel, takes up space in the hold. Feel free to send your baggage through UPS and see what it will cost you as an alternative.

        • HAJAA1 says:

See. Dolts like you is what the airlines count on. Baggage labor and space issues was never a problem before the rising oil prices. But they count on you “getting used to the charge” so even when things reverse, they got you. And sounds like they got you, Steve.

  5. hywnsytl says:

Island air was great, got seats for $79. no dizzyness or throwing up please. These are the same planes alaska air grew from.
Hawaiian air is just too expensive. Island air will sellout most days to Maui or Kauai so book early. Hopefully their fleet will grow.

  6. environmental_lady says:

This should make HA pilots even madder. I wonder when they are going to strike?

  7. Bully says:

I should of bought the stock a month ago.

  8. 808comp says:

Wonder what happened to their contract talk with the pilots. Hope they got what they wanted.

    • BuhByeAloha says:

I hear a strike is coming. Many of the pilots are so insulted they are applying to other airlines.

      • HawaiiCheeseBall says:

No one is applying to other airlines. Those who wanted to leave have left already. The pilots know if they want to live in Hawaii, there is only one option.

        • BuhByeAloha says:

You’re completely wrong. And why do you think you know anything about the Hawaiian pilots? If I had to guess, I’d bet you were one of the Aloha pilots that couldn’t get hired by Hawaiian when Aloha failed.

  9. HAJAA1 says:

Hawaiian Airlines loves to use the excuse of rising oil prices to raise ticket prices and create fees; but when those oil prices drop – and drop BIG TIME – what is their excuse for not lowering prices for their “beloved customers”? And proof of things turning around for them is right there in the pudding: Almost 50% profit? FIFTY %??

    • Scooter808 says:

Hawaiian Airlines is so bad, even their own employees have no support with their lower wages vs. the company doing well and vs. other airlines.
The higher ups just like HECO.
But too bad for HECO. Once battery technology improves and becomes way cheaper, see ya!!
