UH Wahine Volleyball player Nikki Taylor attempted a kill against UC Irvine Anteaters Loryn Carter and Danielle Geiger in a game, Friday, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Despite two victories, Hawaii continued to drop in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Ratings Percentage Index.

The Rainbow Wahine fell two spots in today’s RPI to 33.

The RPI is used to help seed teams in the postseason based on a team’s record and its strength of schedule.

Wisconsin, which was swept by Minnesota last week, remained No. 1 in today’s RPI. The Badgers defeated Hawaii in the season opener and are one of five Big Ten teams with top-10 RPI.

Also today, Hawaii (14-5, 6-1 Big West) moved up four places to No. 13 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25. Defending national champion Nebraska (16-1) moved up a spot to No. 1, receiving 62 first-place votes, while Texas (14-2) went up two places to No. 2.

Minnesota (14-3), which swept previous No. 1 Wisconsin (15-2) last week, remained at No. 3 with the Badgers slipping to No. 4. Nos. 5 through 8 also stayed the same: San Diego (17-2) at No. 5, Kansas (17-2) at No. 6, Washington (16-2) at No. 7 and North Carolina (16-2) at No. 8.

The RPI of Hawaii’s other nonconference losses are: 11 (Washington), 16 (Kansas State) and 20 (UCLA). The Wahine have wins over Arizona (29), Pacific (60), Northern Illinois (71), Missouri State (74), Pepperdine (117) and Utah Valley (155).

Long Beach State, which handed Hawaii its lone Big West loss this season, dropped eight spots to 59. This past week, the Wahine defeated UC Irvine (remaining at 146) and UC Davis (down 12 to 142).

The RPI of the other Big West teams are: Cal Poly (down nine to 55), UC Santa Barbara (down 13 to 70), Cal State Northridge (down 13 to 132), Cal State Fullerton (down two to 266) and UC Riverside (up 21 to 261).

Awright! Wahine moved up to 13 in AVCA.

Computer generated RPI is flawed….AVCA Coaches Poll Hawaii #13, last week #17

Still can’t believe the NCAA changed the tournament format this year to let the top remaining seed in each region host the regionals. The top teams will get to play the first 4 NCAA matches at home. This is like Trump’s tax break for the rich. C’mon man, if there’s a “rigged system,” this is it.

The difference is there’s is no money for almost all women’s volleyball programs. Only a handful make money or break even, if at that. There’s nothing rigged about it, it’s called “saving money”.
