Jewish Community Services, which is celebrating 18 years of service in Hawaii, is taking reservations for its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Pacific Club. Reservations will be accepted until Oct. 26 at jcs-hi.org.
The volunteer organization is guided by traditional Jewish values of “tikkun olam” (repair the world) and “gemilut chasidim” (acts of loving kindness). Its mission is to support and enhance the quality of life of those in need by providing appropriate social services.
Volunteers to be honored at the dinner include John Allen of the Aloha Jewish Chapel; Estee and Yudi Weinbaum, Chabad of Hawaii; Sally Morgan, Congregation Sof Ma’arav; Simon Vojdan, Jewish Congregation of Maui; Barbara and Michael Fischlowitz-Leong, Oahu Jewish ‘Ohana; and Gail Marcus, Temple Emanu-El.

Interfaith Alliance Hawaii awards to feature Belatti
State Rep. Della Au Belatti (D, Moiliili-Makiki-Tantalus) will serve as keynote speaker at The Interfaith Alliance Hawaii’s 14th annual awards celebration dinner.
The event is slated for Oct. 23, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin’s social hall, 1727 Pali Highway.
Belatti, an attorney, has represented District 24 since 2006. She serves on the state House committees for health, housing, human services and the Judiciary.
The theme of this year’s event: “It’s Not My Problem: Taking Responsibility in an Irresponsible World.” Some community members will be recognized with “Sparks of Hope” awards that honor individuals who step up and take responsibility in various situations.
There is no charge for dinner, but space is limited and reservations must be made by Wednesday.

Peace Prayer event Oct. 23 to focus on homelessness
The Hawaii Conference of Religions for Peace is co-sponsoring a “Peace Prayer” event focusing on homelessness.
The event, set for 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at Gedatsu Church of Hawaii, 6095 Summer St., will feature two keynote speakers: Aulani Tavares and Holly Holowach of Holomua na ‘Ohana Weinberg Village Waimanalo, a transitional shelter for the homeless.
The Interfaith Alliance Hawaii is co-sponsoring the event, which will also include prayers offered by members of various faiths as well as music and hula. Dinner and refreshment will be served, and “peace cups” artwork will be on display.
