Flight crew boots passenger who hooted at female flight attendant

A man was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight, Sunday, after he heckled a flight attendant, calling out “sexy!” as she demonstrated how to use a life vest.

Alaska Airlines removed a man from a plane after he heckled a female flight attendant, calling out “sexy!” as she demonstrated how to use a life vest.

The incident occurred Sunday before a flight from Seattle to Burbank, California, Alaska spokeswoman Ann Zaninovich said today.

Zaninovich provided few details other than to say that the airline stood behind the decision of the crew to remove the man from the flight. She also said an account of the incident posted on Facebook was accurate.

In that post, Amber D. Nelson of suburban Los Angeles said a man in the row behind her began calling out to the flight attendant demonstrating the life vest. After the attendant asked the man to be respectful, he answered “C’mon, I’m just playing with you!” Nelson wrote.

As the man was escorted off the plane, he objected that he hadn’t done anything wrong, according to Nelson, who did not immediately respond to an attempt to contact her.

Nelson praised Alaska for supporting the crew “and those of us on board who were demeaned by another passenger’s juvenile and exceedingly disrespectful behavior.”

Airline employees have broad latitude to remove passengers, who are often allowed to board a later flight. Alaska did not identify the passenger or say whether he took a later flight.

People who commented on Nelson’s post took both sides, with some applauding the airline and others saying the crew overreacted.

Good for Alaska. I’ve flown Alaska many times and would not want to endure such idiot behavior as a passenger. For the Flight Attendant, that is her work environment her place of employment. It is called work place harassment / sexual harassment. The crew did the right thing.

Judging by the headline I was expecting to read that the guy went “Who! Who!”

  10. entrkn says:

As a former airline employee, I tip my hat to Alaskan for standing up for the flight attendant. The safety briefing can be the most important moment in the trip if there is trouble later, and no one should ever be allowed to interfere with that briefing!

“As the man was escorted off the plane, he objected that he didn’t do anything wrong.” Yeah you did. You opened your mouth. Bet next time you’re on a plane, you going shut up and listen.

Nipped it in the bud, good job!

  13. stef says:

Sounds like an over-reaction to me. Sure the guy was out of line and discourteous. But to deplane him and delay the flight?

But I would think there are other measures that could have been taken rather than inconvenience a plane load of passengers with late departure so that the crew could deplane this boor. I hate to say this, but there probably is a lawsuit here.

    • Ikefromeli says:

No there is not. Aviation policy and law, hold great deference to the airlines to promote both safety and civility. In the very best of fact patterns, it is an entirely uphill battle to wins these sorts of cases with airlines.

    • shayarai says:

Don’t think there’s ground for a lawsuit. He wasn’t discriminated against, he broke the rules, so off he goes. Much better for passengers to be inconvenienced by a delay early-on than to have to turn around mid-flight. If I was on that plane, the last thing I’d want is to be subjected to boorish behavior for hours.

  14. Junkflyer says:

If a passenger starts off that way, it would probably get worse as the flight went on.
Safety and security are the biggest concerns for a flight crew-best to prevent a bad situation.
    No lawsuit here.

  15. samidunn says:

Put him on the no fly list

  16. residenttaxpayer says:

All the airlines should have a zero tolerance policy for obnoxious and disruptive behavior also the airlines should restrict or do way with serving alcoholic beverages as this seems to cause a lot behavior problems……

I was hoping they showed a pic of the stewardess. Was she a hottie?
