Trump says he’ll do more for women as president than Clinton

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gestures to the crowd during a rally in Roanoke, Va., Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016. Trump faces Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in the first of three debates Monday.

ROANOKE, Va. >> Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump tried to make the case Saturday that he’d do more to help women from the White House than Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, a lifelong champion of women’s rights who would become the nation’s first female president.

“My opponent likes to say that for decades she’s been fighting for women, that she’s been fighting for children. Why, then, are 70 million American women and children living in poverty or on the brink of poverty in our country?” Trump asked a rally crowd in Roanoke. “For years she’s been doing this and she’s done nothing.”

The appeal came hours after Trump threatened on Twitter to invite a woman who’d had an affair with Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, to sit in the first row at Monday’s presidential debate. The Clinton campaign had invited Mark Cuban, a fellow billionaire and Trump rival, to the debate.

“If dopey Mark Cuban of failed Benefactor fame wants to sit in the front row, perhaps I will put Gennifer Flowers right alongside of him!” Trump said.

Trump’s campaign officials did not respond to requests for comment on Saturday, and it remained unclear whether Flowers would actually attend.

Clinton’s campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri responded: “Hillary Clinton plans on using the debate to discuss the issues that make a difference in people’s lives.” She added: “It’s not surprising that Donald Trump has chosen a different path.”

Trump has been criticized throughout the campaign for crass comments he has made about women in the past, including insults about their physical appearance. Clinton’s campaign has tried to capitalize on those comments, including with a new add that features images of adolescent girls looking at their reflections as audio of Trump’s comments play.

The tweet on Saturday underscored the challenges Trump faces as he attempts to close his deficit among female voters, whom polls show favor Clinton by significant margins.

Trump had all but ignored issues like child care and maternity leave until the Republican National Convention when his daughter, Ivanka, suddenly said her father would work to provide affordable childcare for women. Clinton, on the other hand, released a policy a year ago and has spent much of her life advocating for women and girls.

After graduating from law school, Clinton worked for the Children’s Defense Fund. She also co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children & Families early in her career and delivered a seminal speech as first lady declaring that “women’s rights are human rights.” As secretary of state, she stressed the importance of women’s rights in of U.S. foreign policy.

But on Saturday, Trump tried to argue that Clinton had failed in her objectives.

“Why has she provided no relief for the millions of Americans in search of affordable, reliable, quality childcare?” he asked at the rally, suggesting that in Clinton’s roles as first lady, senator or secretary of state, she had the power to implement that kind of program on her own.

Trump also pointed to his own record of hiring women to some of the highest positons in his company and campaign.

Trump is indeed the first Republican nominee to hire a woman as his campaign manager. And he has a history of hiring women to high-profile leadership positions, which was especially rare in the real estate industry in the 1980s and 1990s.

LOL….what has Trump done for anyone except himself? Using charity monies to buy his own portrait and putting in the men’s room at his golf course is illegal. Using charity monies to pay off for his illegal flag pole is illegal. To ignore that facts that his Dad and Trump himself brag how they had NYC politicians in their pockets for $875,000,000 in tax breaks shows your ignorance of who has done what to enrich themselves.

  4. Boots says:

Yes, the Donald will help women more than Hillary. Just ask the Freedom girls what a help the Donald was. Anyone who votes for the Donald is voting for Ron Rewald.

  5. Allaha says:

Trump should give to women more rights than to men, because they are the weaker sex.

This statement is no more or less ridiculous than anything else he’s said. Mr. Trump lives exclusively for himself. Everything he has ever done in his life has been to further his narcissism. His businesses, including his “foundation”, turn out to be organized criminal conspiracies to enrich himself with items like gigantic portraits of himself. It would be sad if it wasn’t so cartoonish. And his pathetic followers? Please.

Trump employs hundreds of people in Hawaii. Scores of local businesses depend on Trump. He contributes to Hawaii’s economy. What’s has Crooked Hilliary done for Hawaii? Not one thin dime. Nada.
People around here better wake up and smell the coffee.

If you are talking about the Trump hotel in Waikiki, you are lying. Mr. Trump does not own that hotel and didn’t develop it. He sold his name to it. He employs no one there.

Can you ever write anything that is truthful? Ever?

Please read this statement from the Trump International Hotel & Tower website and stop continually positing the lie that Trump employs hundreds of people in Hawaii:

“Trump International Hotel & Tower® Waikiki Beach Walk® is not owned, developed or sold by Donald J. Trump, the Trump Organization or any of their affiliates. Irongate Azrep BW LLC, the owner and developer of the property, uses the “Trump” name and mark under license from Trump Marks Waikiki LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.”

In today’s online editions, articles in three major newspapers made statements about Trump’s barrage of lies:

NY Times: “Donald J. Trump has unleashed a blizzard of falsehoods, exaggerations and outright lies in the general election, peppering his speeches, interviews and Twitter posts with untruths so frequent that they can seem flighty or random — even compulsive.”

Washington Post: “An examination by The Washington Post of one week of Trump’s speeches, tweets and interviews show a candidate who not only continues to rely heavily on thinly sourced or entirely unsubstantiated claims but also uses them to paint a strikingly bleak portrait of an impoverished America, overrun by illegal immigrants, criminals and terrorists”

LA Times: “Never in modern presidential politics has a major candidate made false statements as routinely as Trump has. Over and over, independent researchers have examined what the Republican nominee says and concluded it was not the truth — but “pants on fire” (PolitiFact) or “four Pinocchios” (Washington Post Fact Checker)…the scope of Trump’s falsehoods is unprecedented, and he is dogged in refusing to stop saying things once they are proved untrue.”

  9. bsdetection says:

Politico” “Though few statements match the audacity of his statement about his role in questioning Obama’s citizenship, Trump has built a cottage industry around stretching the truth. According to POLITICO’s five-day analysis, Trump averaged about one falsehood every three minutes and 15 seconds over nearly five hours of remarks. “
