For those who want to satisfy their andagi cravings, Okinawan festivities will be held today and Saturday.
Because the annual Okinawan Festival on Labor Day weekend was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Lester, the Hawaii United Okinawa Association is hosting three events.
A Mini-Okinawan Cultural Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Honolulu Hale.
Fair-goers can enjoy andagi and cultural displays, and purchase Okinawan-themed T-shirts.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., an Okinawan Festival T-shirt sale and craft fair will be held at the Hawaii Okinawa Center in Waipio, 94-587 Ukee St.
Also on Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the Hawaii Okinawa Center, the HUOA is throwing the last bon dance of the year — the Autumn Okinawa Dance Matsuri, with live music and food.
The specialty products brought in from Okinawa and usually sold at the Okinawan Festival’s Heiwa Dori booth will be sold beginning Sunday at all Don Quijote stores.
Through September, Zippy’s Restaurants will contribute to the HUOA for each order of its Zip Dog, inspired by the Okidog, and its shoyu pork plate.
