Hilo restaurant fire causes $120K in damage
Hawaii island firefighters extinguished a restaurant fire in Hilo today that caused about $120,000 in damage.
Twenty-two firefighters responded at about 8:45 a.m. to Ling’s Chop Suey House, 2100 Kanoelehua Ave., and found extensive smoke coming from the exhaust stack above the kitchen, firefighters said.
Firefighters put out the flames with a chemical fire extinguisher, aided by the kitchen’s sprinkler system. Firefighters contained the fire to the interior of the gas range.
A grease build up on and within the gas range caused the fire, firefighters said.
