University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball players Nikki Taylor and Casey Castillo put up a block against Northern Illinois Huskie Jenna Radke in a game on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawaii moved back down one place in today’s AVCA Coaches Top 25 volleyball poll to No. 15, a spot the Rainbow Wahine were in two weeks ago.

Hawaii (5-4), falling to Washington in five on Sunday, was at No. 14 last week. The Huskies (8-0) moved up a spot to No. 5 today.

Defending national champion Nebraska remained the unanimous No. 1, the Huskers (6-0) receiving all 64 first-place votes.

Texas (7-1) was up a spot to No. 2 while Minnesota (5-1) jumped two places to third. Kansas (9-0) remained at No. 4 with Wisconsin (6-1), which defeated Hawaii in the season opener, dropping four spots to No. 6 after falling at North Carolina on Friday.

UCLA (7-1), also losing its first match — at San Diego in four Saturday — fell four places to No. 11. The Toreros (5-1) rose from No. 15 to No. 10.

Besides losing to UCLA, Hawaii’s other loss was to Kansas State (7-2) in the second match of the season. The Wildcats debuted in today’s poll at No. 25. Big West rival Long Beach State received 10 points putting the 49ers (5-4) in 35th.

Obviously whoever votes on these don’t look at potential. Despite losing, they took the 6th ranked team to 5 sets- the match could have gone either way. I thought our team played really, really well against a very tough opponent. They have made vast improvements since the first matches. I’m looking forward to an exciting season!
