Get ready for muggy, wet week

NOAA / NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

This composite satellite image shows clouds over Oahu that brought showers to Windward Oahu this morning.

Muggy and wet.

That’s the forecast for the rest of the week from the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said a weather system moving west across the state is bringing tropical moisture over the islands.

“This will bring an extended period of wetter than normal weather and humid conditions to the Aloha state,” forecasters said. “Locally heavy rainfall will be possible, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Tradewinds are light, so there will not be much relief from the humidity from cooling northeast breezes.

Tradewinds should strengthen later in the week, but the tropical moisture will linger, forecasters said.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for a 50 to 70 percent chance of rain. Highs will be between 84 and 90 degrees and lows should be between 66 and 76 degrees.

More typical tradewinds weather should return this weekend.
