The sixth annual Peace Day Interfaith Celebration will feature speakers and musical performances from various religious and spiritual organizations under the theme of “Inspiring Peace.”
The event is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway. Among the performers is ukulele virtuoso Gordon Mark.
Sponsors include Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii and the Betsuin temple, Pacific Buddhist Academy, The Interfaith Alliance Hawaii and Hawaii Conference of Religions for Peace.
In 2007 Hawaii became the first state in the nation to officially recognize the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, which is now celebrated in more than 200 countries.
The Day of Peace, observed Sept. 21, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001 to strengthen the ideals of peace and nonviolence across the globe.
