A 34-year-old woman was killed in a single-car crash early Sunday morning on Lanai, Maui police said.
Police identified the woman as Natasha Jenkins of Lanai.
Police said Jenkins was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla westbound on Keomoku Road near mile marker 6.8 when she veered off the roadway, hit an embankment and was ejected from her car as it rolled several times.
Police said Jenkins’ friends were following her but did not see the accident and found her under her car.
Jenkins was taken to Lanai Community Hospital, where she died. The crash happened at about 3:18 a.m.
This was Maui County’s 12th traffic fatality this year, compared with 15 at this time last year.
Van with Make-A-Wish graphics stolen
A large van emblazoned with a Make-A-Wish Hawaii logo and a picture of a girl in a princess outfit embracing a woman with wings was stolen Sunday from a home in Kahala.
The van belongs to a family that supports Make-A-Wish Hawaii, a nonprofit that grants the wishes of local children battling life-threatening illnesses, said Laurabeth Merritt of Make-A-Wish Hawaii.
She said the van is wrapped in a “very distinguishable” Make-A-Wish Hawaii — Kids for Wish Kids wrap.
The Kids for Wish Kids program encourages children and teens to be active in their communities to give hope to children and families when they need it most, Merritt said.
“We hope the van can be recovered and sincerely thank the public for being on the lookout,” she said. “If you see the van, please call 911 to report it.”
