Mark Lagazo threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Kailua Surfriders over the host Nanakuli Golden Hawks 34-21 in an OIA Red game on Friday.
Lagazo, who took over at quarterback after Keoni Serikawa went down with an injury against Farrington, threw for two touchdowns in the first quarter to put the Surfriders (2-1, 2-1 OIA Red) ahead 14-7.
Kailua cashed in off a Nanakuli turnover midway through the second when John Sniffen recovered a fumble. On the next play, Lagazo ran into the end zone from 35 yards out to extend the lead to 20-7 with 6:59 remaining.
Nanakuli rallied in the third quarter when Chyson Morgan scored a touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return. Nanakuli closed to 34-21 early in the fourth on Morgan’s 79-yard catch from Nainoa Banks.
The Golden Hawks (0-4, 0-3) later recovered a fumble with five minutes remaining in the game and advanced to Kailua’s 39. But Dakota Kadooka intercepted a Nanakuli pass to thwart a comeback attempt.
