Sophomore hitter McKenna Granato put down a career-high 19 kills but it was not enough as No. 6 Hawaii was upset by Kansas State tonight 19-25, 30-28, 25-22, 25-20, in the Chevron Invitational volleyball tournament match at the Stan Sheriff Center.
It is the first time that Hawaii has opened the season 0-2 since 2005, that coming in Omaha, Neb. It was the first time that the Wildcats have defeated the Rainbow Wahine in six meetings.
Brooke Sassin led Kansas State (2-0) with 18 kills and Kylee Sumach added 14. The Wildcats won the block war 12-8.
In the first match, No. 4 Wisconsin swept Arizona (0-2), 26-24, 26-24, 25-22.
Wisconsin and Kansas State meet at noon Sunday for a true championship.
Hawaii and Arizona meet at 5 p.m. for third place.
