Honolulu and federal firefighters extinguished a 3-acre brush fire that burned close to a recreation center Sunday in Ewa Beach.
The fire started in an open lot at about 2:30 p.m. near Keaunui Drive and Maana Street, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. James Todd.
Seven companies, three tankers and a brush truck, along with federal firefighters from a nearby base, stopped the flames before they approached nearby homes or damaged the rec center, he said.
Firefighters left the scene at about 5:40 p.m. The cause of the fire was undetermined.
