The Riviera implosion Part 2 went off without a hitch last week, as the second of two hotel towers was imploded early Tuesday morning.
Despite the early hour, hundreds of onlookers witnessed the blast that buckled the Monte Carlo tower and left a pile of debris where the tower and surrounding lower-level buildings used to be. Unlike the implosion of the Monaco tower in June, there was no attending ceremony and very little publicity leading up to the demolition. The area will be redeveloped by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
>> Kong coming: The planned Wynn Paradise Park on the Strip will include a King Kong attraction when it opens. Steve Wynn says that an 8-story Kong will emerge daily on one of two islands at the resort.
>> Halal Guys opens: Las Vegas’ first Halal Guys has opened on Spring Mountain Road about 2 miles west of the Strip. Famously beginning as a food cart in New York, the restaurant serves a short menu of Middle Eastern cuisine in bowls or wraps.
>> “Absinthe” to Cosmo: “Absinthe,” the edgy production show that recently announced that it’s closing at Caesars Palace, is moving. The last show at Caesars will be Oct. 21, then it’s expected to reopen at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in November.
Question: Are the Las Vegas casino honchos supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy for president?
Answer: Not exactly. Steve Wynn recently cited a friendship with the Clintons as a reason for remaining neutral; usually politically active Sheldon Adelson has been uncharacteristically quiet; and MGM Resorts International CEO Jim Murren, an avowed Republican, has come out unambiguously in support of Hillary Clinton.
