Tropical Storm Kay strengthened overnight off the coast of Mexico, but is still expected to weaken as it moves northwest, away from the mainland and into cooler ocean waters.

The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph at 11 a.m., about 275 miles southwest of Baja California.

The storm was moving northwest at 6 mph and is expected to turn west-northwest on Sunday.

Kay should maintain tropical storm strength for the next two to three days and is likely to weaken into a remant low next week.

The storm is not a hazard to land.
