Man accused of grabbing steering wheel of moving bus is charged
A 43-year-old homeless man, accused of grabbing the steering wheel of a moving bus in downtown Honolulu, was charged Thursday night with interfering with a bus driver.
Prosecutors charged Erik D. McHenry, who has no local address, with interference of an operator of a public transit vehicle.
At about noon Wednesday, police said McHenry grabbed and jerked the wheel of bus, causing the bus to veer into the next lane near the intersection of South Beretania Street and Queen Emma Street. The bus driver regained control of the wheel, bringing it safely to a stop.
McHenry’s bail is set at $11,000.

I hope he “accidently” fell down the bus stairs.
This behavior is extremely dangerous! Years ago in Israel a terrorist did the same thing, diverting the bus into a ditch killing 22 people. The defendant should be charged with attempted murder.
agree..I worry that the amount of crime in the homeless communities are growing.
Wow unreal he needs to be charged with attempted murder. The Bus should have some kind of law or something not letting the homeless on the Bus. The come into the Bus and all they do is stink up the Bus and the passengers are the ones who have to suffer.
That would be illegal. The bus must serve all law-abiding customers.
Yeah but the have the right to refuse a passenger for coming onto the Bus. Especially if they are all soiled. Would you want them to sit next to you, I don’t think so.
i have compassion for all who suffer
Send scumbags like these to Kahoolawe and let them set up their own encampment there. Nothing more and nothing less. In fact, send all these dirty scumbags there……Geezus, I was w/a close friend walking on Kalakaua Ave. in front of the IMP Tues. evening and two vagrants came out of nowhere, smelly and dirty, asking for monies and followed us all the way to the corner of Kalakaua and Kaiulani……really “pissed me off” as I really wanted to “deck” those scumbags……please don’t tell me to feel sorry for those bums….you won’t get my sympathy….
His living accommodations have been upgraded for a few days since he’s locked up for the weekend.
Might need to build fully enclosed driver’s compartments or hire security guards. I think the rail trains will be very secure like airplane cockpits. Might start giving both personnel gun carry permits.
Our rail trains (if ever finished) will not have drivers.
Sounds good to me. No unions.
Typical town side madness.
What reigns in homeless anymore? Obviously not the laws. So if nothing deters them from pooping on sidewalks or camping out on street corners and traffic islands, expect more incidents like this in the future.
Even a homeless buggah feels as privilege as Ryan Lochte. Whatta country!
