The Thunder (Hawaii) baseball team defeated Spokane, Wash., 2-1 on Saturday at the 13U Babe Ruth World Series in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Pitchers Jayton Pang and Yoshikane held Spokane to one run on five hits. Yoshikane got the win with 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up just one hit and striking out one.
The Thunder scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Lee Matsuzaki’s single plated Yoshikane. Matsuzaki went 2-for-3 with a double, while Yoshikane went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
With the win, the Thunder improved to 3-0. They finish pool play on Monday.
