Walt Disney World pulling plug on famed Electrical Parade
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. » Disney Parks says the famed Main Street Electrical Parade will end its run at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park in October.
The parade has dazzled visitors with floats covered in colorful lights featuring Disney characters since it first debuted at the Florida resort in 1977. The Orlando Sentinel reports the parade went on an eight-year hiatus at Disney World beginning in 1991. It ran again from 1999 to 2001 before the current version began rolling down Main Street nightly in 2010.
Disney didn’t say in a Wednesday announcement what would replace the parade.
Disney says the parade will be shipped west for a limited run at Disneyland in California, where it ran from 1972 to 1996.

Was getting tired anyway. Step it up now with new technologies.
You’re just getting old and cranky. Sad.
I wouldn’t be surprised if its to cut cost.
This and the laser show are great. Too bad.
Disneyworld has lost its luster.
Seeing it once is enough. At Disney World, the best time to get on rides quickly, and multiple times, was during the Main Street parade.
Those brightly lit parade guys were so awesome. I remember a snail spinning in front of me and the coolest part was that it made it’s own, Disney sounds!
It won’t be at Disneyland because it can’t be at Disneyland. When they decided to halt the parade at Disneyland in 1996, there was a lot of advertising and promotion about the “Main Street Electrical Parade” ending. A lot of California residents bought tickets to see it because it would never come back. That’s why they don’t use “Main Street” when referring to this parade anymore. It’s simply “Disneys Electrical Parade”. If it were to return to Disneyland Park, they would be sued. Disneyland now has the very modern “Paint the Night Parade”. It’s pretty awesome and a great replacement.
Gov. Ige would like it.
I wonder if Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade will be next. Macy’s is closing a lot of stores to save money and that parade must be a big expense. Haven’t missed it since I was a kid but would like to see it in person just once.
